We install and service many types of solar systems.
1) Solar hot water systems: Uses the sun to heat your domestic hot water. Their are many different collectors and the efficiency and cost vary. The more efficient the collector the more hot water will be produced in overcast conditions. Most systems have a backup for high demand or exceptional long cloudy conditions. The key to this system is a good solar location. The tax credits are up to 30% federal; state tax credits and utility rebates are available.
2) Photovoltaic electric systems: Refered to as PV produces electricity (direct current) and through inverters converts it to alternating current. Most systems feed the grid in daytime (causing the meter to spin backward.) The utilities use net metering and buy your surplus electricity. The federal government offers a 30% tax credit, state tax credits and utility rebates are available.
